The MLK Gateway Project will be a two-phased development.

The first phase will comprise 20,000 square feet of office above 14,600 square feet of community-facing retail. The second phase will comprise approximately 100,000 +/- square feet mixed-use buildings.


In 2016, Mayor Bowser issued an RFP seeking partners to redevelop what is now known as the first phase of the Project. A development team led by the Menkiti Group was selected and broke ground on the Project in December of 2019. The first phase is projected to deliver in the last quarter of 2021.




MLK Gateway is a two-phase project that will form the gateway from downtown DC to an emerging and revitalized Anacostia. 


These two phases connect the neighborhood's two major commercial corridors, Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Good Hope Road. This project is a partnership between The Menkiti Group and DMPED.


The second phase, which begins construction in 2021, will be anchored with DC's Department of Housing and Community Development.

The Menkiti Group partnered with H2 Design, a black-owned CBE, on a Ward 8 renovation project featuring 100% Ward 8 subcontractors.

Located at 1916 13th St SE in the heart of historic Anacostia, this renovation project, coined the Anacostia House, is an exciting story of renewal for a dilapidated building.


As a true testament to our dedication to supporting residents and businesses in Anacostia, every sub-contractor working on this project is a Ward 8 business. Stay tuned for more details on the Anacostia House coming soon.
