VISION & DESIGN

The MLK Gateway has been designed to be a hub of office, retail, and community activity at the most prominent intersection in Historic Anacostia.
 

Our vision is to build on the inherent existing valuable assets in the Historic Anacostia neighborhood to create a dynamic destination.

We envision a project that serves as a catalyst for a thriving, diverse, and economically vibrant commercial corridor among a vibrant mix of commerce, culture, technology, and the arts.

PROPOSED TENANTS / USES

Our project includes 100% retail and office space to best serve the needs of the community. These buildings will house 150 new high tech jobs, will encourage economic development and are designed to attract much-needed neighborhood-serving retail and services.
 

Our proposed mix of tenants and uses includes:

  • Tech office anchor tenant with tech jobs incubator space

  • Accessible neighborhood-serving retail and a sit-down restaurant

  • Fresh food market

  • A real estate educational and career training academy

Team

The Menkiti Group has partnered with Washington, DC-based Enlightened, Inc. to create a true gateway at the most prominent intersection in Southeast DC.
 

Together, the two minority-owned companies are committed to delivering a project that engages local residents in pathways to opportunity in this rapidly evolving market. 

 

In an unprecedented move for DC's tech sector, Enlightened will relocate company headquarters from the downtown CBD to MLK Gateway. The company will also operate a technology incubator and jobs training center at 1909 MLK Jr Ave.
